Senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani (86) has been hospitalised in New Delhi after he complained of chest pain.

“He is stable and under treatment,” said his son Sayed Naseem.

Mr. Geelani, who heads the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, is now in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “Doctors subjected him to some vital medical tests. He was also administered oxygen,” said Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar.

The Hurriyat has rushed an official team, comprising Mr. Geelani’s personal secretary Peer Saifullah, spokesman Ayaz Akbar and senior separatist leader Raja Mehraj-ud-Din, to New Delhi.

“People are requested to pray for the speedy recovery of Geelani Sahab,” said an APHC statement.

Mr. Geelani has been living in New Delhi following doctors’ advice to avoid the cold weather in the valley. He suffers from multiple problems, which include lung, heart and kidney ailments.
