A Japanese diplomat was injured in an attack in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, on Sunday, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing the Japanese embassy in Yemen.
The diplomat was stabbed several times — including in the head and back — and was taken to hospital, but the wounds were apparently not life threatening, according to the Embassy.
There have been numerous attacks and threats against foreign interests in Yemen in the past.
Foreign nationals have been abducted on several occasions, often by tribesmen seeking ransom payments or trying to exert influence on the government to meet local demands.
Earlier this month, a Dutch couple were released in Yemen after five months in captivity.
