Yet another conspiracy theory on the death of Diana, former Princess of Wales and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed that emerged this August has been exposed by the London Metropolitan police for what it is — a dud.
However, in the U.K., where the popular press reaps enormous dividends from stoking and feeding the Diana frenzy, even the terse statement by the Met that they found no basis in the theory that the Special Forces Directorate had anything to do with the deaths of the two celebrities in 1997, is a handy peg to hang regurgitated Diana stories on.
In August this year the police were given material from a SFD soldier via the parents of his estranged wife alleging that persons in his regiment were responsible for arranging Diana’s death 16 years ago.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt from the Specialist Crime and Operations Command directed his officers to conduct a scoping exercise to examine the information and decide whether a criminal investigation should be re-opened.
“No credible evidence,” is what the Met police said in their press release.
The tabloids are now free to re-focus on the Nigella Lawson courtroom drama.
