At least one Afghan soldier was killed and a NATO-led international military soldier injured Saturday in an insider attack in the capital, Kabul, officials said.

“There was a verbal dispute between an Afghan and a NATO soldier today, who opened fire on each other,” said Dawlat Waziri, Defence Ministry spokesman.

“The Afghan soldier was killed and the foreign one was injured,” he said.

Mr Waziri refused to give further details, saying “the incident took place on the outskirts of Kabul city.” The NATO-led military coalition confirmed the incident, saying “a man wearing the Afghan security forces’ uniform” attacked a NATO service member and injured him.

“The attacker was shot dead,” said a NATO official.

The official did not give information about the nationality of the NATO soldier or comment upon who shot the Afghan man, saying an investigation was ongoing.
