Amid country-wide protests over a U.S. court's decision to sentence Pakistani neuro-scientist Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years in prison for shooting at American soldiers in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to bring her back.
Mr. Gilani gave this assurance in the Senate as protests — which began on Thursday after the verdict was out — continued through the day. Describing Dr. Siddiqui as the “daughter of the nation'', the Prime Minister said Americans — who are trying hard to build their image in Pakistan — would be able to win the hearts of the people by releasing her.
It is widely believed here that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-educated neuro-scientist was handed over to the U.S. by Pakistan because of her alleged links with the Al-Qaeda.
