A Tunisian prosecutor has opened an investigation into the overseas assets of deposed president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and his family.

The official TAP news agency says the prosecutor’s office decided on Wednesday to investigate bank accounts, real estate and other assets held by Mr. Ben Ali, his wife Leila Trabelsi and other relatives.

Mr. Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia on Friday after a popular uprising.
