Tropical Storm Erika approaching Leeward Islands

Tropical Storm Erika headed toward the Leeward Islands, and now Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are under a tropical storm watch.

Erika was centred Tuesday night about 495 miles (800 kilometres) east of Antigua, moving west at 18 mph (30 kph). Forecasters say it is poorly organised and has top sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph).

A tropical storm warning covers Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. A tropical storm watch covers Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Guadeloupe, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Montserrat.

Storm Ignacio strengthens

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ignacio has strengthened in the eastern Pacific with top sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) as it moves westward some 1,525 miles (2,455 kilometres) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii.
