“Trierweiler’s trip to Mumbai funded by private partners’

January 26, 2014 01:40 am | Updated May 13, 2016 12:22 pm IST - Paris:

The two-day trip to Mumbai by Valerie Trierweiler, whose separation from President Francois Holande was announced on Saturday, has become the subject of enormous scrutiny and controversy in France.

The visit is aimed at training a spotlight on malnutrition and hunger in India, but donors to Action Against Hunger, the NGO that organised the former French First Lady’s visit, have demanded to know whether their money will serve its purpose now that Ms. Trierweiler is no longer the “first lady”.

AFP said that Mr. Hollande on Saturday announced his separation from his longstanding partner Ms. Trierweiler, weeks after a French magazine reported that he was having an affair with a French actress.
