Meteorological officials say residents of Indonesia’s capital should brace for the possibility that more tornadoes could hit the city in the coming week.

A small tornado hit Jakarta on Tuesday, damaging more than 50 houses and knocking down dozens of trees. No injuries were reported.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said on Thursday that low air pressure moving into the region from northern Australia has made conditions rife for tornadoes to form in this city of 13 million people.

Tornadoes are common in Indonesia, but rarely hit Jakarta.
