At least 25 people, including 11 security personnel, were killed in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pukhtoonkhwa on Saturday when terrorists attacked a military checkpost. The stand-off between the terrorists and security personnel went on for four hours.
A suicide-bomber entered a nearby house on being challenged by security personnel at the checkpost and blew himself up, killing 10 members of a family, including four children.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was to avenge the killing of two senior commanders in drone attacks in North Waziristan last month. The TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan also contested the security establishment’s contention that 12 terrorists had been killed in the exchange, maintaining that only four suicide bombers had been tasked with the operation.
