At least three Somali soldiers were killed on Saturday in a suicide car bombing close to the parliament in Mogadishu, a security official said.

Some five people were wounded, Mr. Mohamed Hassan said.

Security forces had stopped a car heading towards parliament when the driver blew it up, according to the official.

The bomber was targeting the parliament building where legislators were meeting at the time, security forces said, adding that they had surrounded the area.
