A suicide bomber killed at least six people and wounded 31 others when he blew himself up outside a local government office in a northwestern Pakistani tribal area on Tuesday, officials said.

The bombing took place in the town of Jamrud, in lawless Khyber tribal district bordering Afghanistan, where the military has been battling Taliban and Islamist groups.

“At least six people were killed and 31 others were wounded after a suicide bomber detonated himself at the entrance of an office,” top Khyber tribal administration official Shahab Ali Shah told AFP .

There were four tribal policemen among the dead and more than 15 other personnel were wounded, four of them critically, Shah said.

Nek Mohammad, another tribal administration official, confirmed the attack. The Pakistani Taliban claimed the attack in a statement on their website.

Gilani granted bail Former Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani today secured a seven-day protective bail in nine corruption cases filed against him for allegedly making millions of rupees by approving subsidies to fake companies.

A single bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi granted protective bail to the PPP leader in the nine cases and directed him to furnish surety bonds of Rs 100,000 in each cases.

Earlier, the 63-year—old former prime minister, accompanied by lawyers and supporters, appeared before the IHC to seek pre-arrest bail in corruption cases after an anti-corruption court in Karachi last week issued non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

Gilani and Fahim are named in a multi—million—rupee graft scandal for alleged corrupt earnings by approving subsidies to fake companies through a scheme of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
