Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament and the eldest son of former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested in connection with a case of alleged financial fraud.

The arrest of the 30-year-old member of the Rajapaksa clan was effected by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). He was later remanded for a week. Late last evening, alluding to observations of one of the Ministers, the MP tweeted that “good governance at its best: Govt. ministers decide who to arrest. We’ll not stop our struggle for a people’s govt.”

In January this year, the former President’s another son, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, was arrested with regard to a case of alleged money-laundering. In mid-March, he secured bail. Last year, nearly for about two months, Basil Rajapaksa, younger brother of the former President, was kept in jail for a case of alleged misappropriation of public funds.
