A corporal in the South Korean Marine Corps killed three fellow marines and wounded two others during a shooting spree at a Yellow Sea island base near the country’s tense border with North Korea, officials said on Monday.
One of the slain marines was an officer, while the other two were rank-and-file marines, a Defence Ministry spokesman said. The official, who declined to give his name citing office policy, said the marine who shot them was a corporal surnamed Kim.
The shooting on Ganghwa Island, about 70 km west of Seoul, was being investigated, the official said.
