The Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday extended its ceasefire till April 10, according to its spokesperson quoted in news reports.
The decision to extend the month-long ceasefire which it announced on March 1, came a day after the interior ministry said it had released 19 non combatants since March 21. The release of non combatants has been a demand of the TTP since the peace talks began.
The TTP shura would review the decision after April 10.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif met Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and Director General ISI Lt. General Zaheer ul Islam also attended the meeting.
Matters relating to national security were discussed in the meeting, according to a statement. Earlier Chief of Air staff, Air Chief Marshall Tahir Rafique called on Mr Sharif.
The TTP said it was awaiting for a response from the government after it had extended the ceasefire and its fighters have been ordered not to target security forces.
The interior minister said on Thursday that he would meet the government appointed committee and the TTP nominees to review the situation and take the peace process forward.
