Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will not meet U.S. President Barack Obama during his visit to attend the 68th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Mr. Sharif’s proposed meeting with the U.S. President will be scheduled in the coming months, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said on Thursday.

He said that Mr. Sharif will be visiting New York between September 23 and 29 and address the General Assembly on September 27. He will also address some of the high level events being organised on the sidelines of U.N. General Assembly session, including those on Sustainable Development, Millennium Development Goals, and Nuclear Disarmament.

Mr. Chaudhry did not confirm the dates for the meeting between Mr. Sharif and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He said the two governments are in touch with each other on the proposed meeting between the two Prime Ministers. “We will be able to confirm the meeting only after a decision has been made,” he said, refusing to elaborate.
