Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday announced a new operational strategy for the protection of Islamabad by April 15 which will involve joint patrolling by the Rangers and the police.
Faced with flak after the suicide attack on the district and sessions court, he had called for an improved strategy for the capital. At a high-level meeting attended by top government and police officials, Mr. Chaudhry Nisar said the government would provide necessary funds to start this system of joint patrolling by Rangers and the police making it efficient and responsive, according to a statement.
He said that the Rangers have been given this extra responsibility to make Islamabad a safer city by ensuring security to the life and property of every resident and as a measure to give extra confidence to the people.
The minister gave directions for the immediate purchase of patrolling vehicles along with the recruitment of trained retired army personnel in the police. He also directed the police to train some of its personnel on the pattern of an Elite Police Force. The Minister also asked the Federal Investigation Agency to improve its working and gave directions that strict action should be taken against those officials who have been found guilty of involvement in facilitating human trafficking including their removal from service.
