Another Indian fisherman died in the Malir jail, Karachi, and his body is lying in the Edhi Centre at Sohrab Goth in the Pakistan city. Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid, who is part of the Indo-Pakistan Judicial Committee on Prisoners, told The Hindu on Tuesday that Arvind, son of Dulabhai, died on May 2 of TB.

The Committee, which started functioning since 2007, was seeking more details on his death and of his family in India, of which little is known right now.

Nationality verification

Mr. Zahid said it would take some time before the nationality of the dead fisherman was verified and Indian authorities were informed by the Foreign Office.

The exercise should take only a few days but it took almost six months in some cases, he added.

It is not known how long he was in jail.On December 19, 2013, Bhikha Lakha Shiyal, 35, from Garal village of Junagadh district in Gujarat, died in the same jail.

He was arrested with other fishermen on October 25, 2013 when their boat entered Pakistan waters.

It took over two months for his nationality to be verified and the body sent home.
