A driver in a convoy of Afghanistan-bound NATO tankers in Pakistan’s restive north-west was shot dead Thursday, a security official said.
The attack occurred on the last day of a month-long ceasefire declared by the insurgents Taliban.
Gunmen riding motorbikes fired at seven oil tankers in Jamrud Pass area, 25 km west of provincial capital Peshawar.
“The driver of the last truck was hit by the bullets and died,” said an official of the paramilitary Frontier Corps, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The attackers escaped after the attack. Nobody took responsibility but Taliban rebels have targeted previous NATO shipments passing through Pakistan.
The armistice was announced in March after Islamabad launched peace talks with the militants in February.
