Former President General(retd) Pervez Musharraf has been summoned to appear in the additional sessions court in the Lal Masjid case on March 1.

The case was filed on behalf of Abdul Rasheed, a cleric of Lal Masjid who died in the military operation along with his mother in 2007. The court granted exemption to Mr. Musharraf and asked him to appear on March 1, according to Tariq Asad, lawyer for Rasheed. Mr. Musharraf was supposed to appear in court on Saturday but his lawyers submitted an application for exemption which was granted. Mr. Asad said the application cited security reasons for his non-appearance.

The court has also directed that a supplementary charge sheet be filed in the case. Mr. Asad had submitted that a lot of new evidence was not in the original chargesheet and an additional one should be filed. The court accepted this demand.

Mr. Musharraf is also slated to appear in the special court trying him for high treason on February 18 after his lawyer gave an undertaking to the court that he would be produced.
