The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said the Sheikh Hasina government must be forced to hold fresh national elections under a non-party government to bargain for Teesta waters with India.
The party ended its two-day ‘long march’ to Teesta river on Wednesday. The convoy passed through several northern districts to reach Dalia point, near the Teesta barrage, in Nilphamari district, where an estimated 4,000 party leaders and activists had gathered.
In the midst of the long march, the Teesta water level marked a sudden swell on Tuesday, prompting party’s acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was leading the long march, claim the success of their programme.
