Sri Lanka’s Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Wednesday launched ‘India & Sri Lanka: A partnership that transcends time’, a compilation of India’s development projects in Sri Lanka.
Published by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the brochure features details of India’s engagement in Sri Lanka, covering various projects coming up at an estimated cost of USD 1.3 billion, including a massive housing project. A total of 50,000 homes are being built in Sri Lanka with Indian assistance for families that were displaced during the three decade-long war.
High Commissioner of India Y.K. Sinha said that while India has always extended cooperation to Sri Lanka, the nature of India’s assistance has evolved and expanded since the end of the armed conflict in 2009. India’s assistance in post-conflict recovery commenced in 2008 even before the armed conflict came to an end and has developed as per the priorities set by the Government and people of Sri Lanka, he said.
