After Friday’s congratulatory letter to Mr. Narendra Modi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called him up on Sunday.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Ms. Hasina conveyed to the Indian leader her government’s eagerness to carry forward bilateral relations and try to solve all pending issues through discussion.
She also invited Mr. Modi to Bangladesh.
The Indian election results have led to political controversy as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party claimed the Awami League was “at a loss” after the BJP defeated the Congress. They have become “nervous,” Fakhrul Alamgir, acting secretary-general of the BNP, said.
He alleged the water-sharing issue was unresolved because of the Hasina government’s “submissive” attitude. The BNP leader alleged that Bangladesh was facing “multi-dimensional aggressions” by India and so the people here had nothing to rejoice at the victory of Mr. Modi.
