Five Taliban insurgents and an Afghan soldier were killed on Monday when the militants attacked an Army base in eastern Afghanistan, an official said.

One of the rebels blew himself up at the gate, and the other four were shot by soldiers, Kapisa provincial government spokesman Qais Qaderi said.

One soldier was killed in the clash, he said.

“A second group of militants opened fire on the soldiers. Ten of them were wounded in a two-hour gun battle,” he said.

Taliban spokesmen claimed responsibility for the attack.
