"We will learn more, undoubtedly, about their twisted motivations, but let’s be clear: There is no possible justification for these types of attacks."

U.S. President Barack Obama described the Dallas ambush that killed five polce officials and injured six others at a march protesting the killing of African Americans by policemen as a “vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement.”

“I believe I speak for every single American when I say we are horrified over these events, and we stand united with the people and the police department in Dallas,” Mr Obama said in a statement from Warsaw in Poland where he is attending a NATO summit.

“We will learn more, undoubtedly, about their twisted motivations, but let’s be clear: There is no possible justification for these types of attacks.”

“When incidents like this occur, there’s a big chunk of our citizenry that feels as if, because of the colour of their skin, they are not being treated the same, and that hurts, and that should trouble all of us,” Mr. Obama said responding to the video posted live by Diamond Reynolds, the girlfriend of Philando Castile. “This is not just a black issue, not just a Hispanic issue. This is an American issue that we all should care about.”
