An official of the Saudi Arabian consulate in Karachi was gunned down by unknown assailants in Pakistan’s commercial capital on Monday morning while he was on his way to work. This is the second attack on a Saudi target in the city in a week; the last being a hand grenade attack on the consulate itself.

According to the police, Hassan Al-Kahtani was driving to work when four persons on motorcycles intercepted his vehicle near the Bahrain consulate and started firing at him.

Condemning the attack on the Saudi Consulate General’s car in Karachi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar said the federal government would take all necessary measures to ensure the security and protection of diplomats in Pakistan.

According to the Foreign office, she also spoke to the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal on phone and promised a full investigation into the incident. In a related statement, the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan condemned the murder and noted that terrorists have shown time and again that they could attack anyone, regardless of religion, nationality or ethnicity.
