Russia may go public with the size of its nuclear arsenals after the strategic arms reduction treaty with the United States comes into force.
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday Moscow would consider following the U.S. lead and reveal information on its nuclear weapons.
“We think that this step by Washington will increase transparency and consolidate trust between nuclear and non-nuclear states,” spokesman Andrei Nesterenko told reporters.
He said once the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, signed by the Russian and U.S. Presidents in Prague last month, came into force, Russia “will likewise be able to give practical consideration to disclosing the total number of Russia's deployed strategic delivery vehicles and the warheads they can carry.”
