At least eight people including three children were killed Saturday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan, police said.

“The incident took place in Panjwayi district at 10 am [0530 GMT, when they were on their way for shopping,” said Zia-ur-Rahman Durrani, police spokesman for Kandahar province.

Two civilians were also injured, he said.

According to Durrani, all the victims were members of the same family.

Separately, one civilian and a policeman were killed and a child wounded when a bomb placed on a motorbike exploded in Jalalabad, capital city of eastern province of Nangarhar, the provincial governor’s spokesman, Ahmadzia Abdulzai said.

No group claimed immediate responsibility for the bombs.
