Prabakaran’s father dead

LTTE leader Prabakaran’s father Thiruvengadam Velupillai (86) passed away on Wednesday night, Sri Lanka military said here on Thursday.

The military found Prabakaran’s mother and father, on information provided by the Eelam War IV War displaced, in one of the government run camps in Menik Farm complex in Vavuniya district in the last week of May.

According to the military spokesperson, Udaya Nayanakkara, the parents of Prabakaran were moved into protective custody after their identities were established. Prabakaran’s mother is also reportedly not keeping good health.

Ex-government officer

Prabakaran’s father was a former government servant who retired as district lands officer and hailed from Valvettithurai.

Both the parents who lived in India for several years returned to Wanni after the Norwegian brokered the 2002 Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) were among those left stranded in the last days of the war against the LTTE.
