A senior official of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has confirmed that Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is undergoing treatment for a heart condition at a local hospital in Dubai.

Mian Munir Hans, PPP President, United Arab Emirates (UAE), said Mr. Zaradari was admitted late evening on Tuesday at the American Hospital in Dubai.

Doctors attending to him decided at midnight after investigations that he should undergo a heart procedure on Wednesday. The Pakistani President underwent further investigations in the morning on Wednesday, after which the heart procedure was performed.

He is expected to remain in hospital for another two to three days.

Existing condition

Mr. Hans pointed out that Mr. Zardari has been suffering from heart disease for some time, which led to his hospitalisation for 17 days in Dubai's Welcare hospital five years ago. He has been a frequent visitor to Dubai for health check-ups related to his heart condition.
