In one of New York's deadliest attacks since 9/11 in 2001, an Uzbek man used a pickup truck rented from a New Jersey Home Depot store, to run down pedestrians and cyclists along a 20-block stretch of a bike path that runs along the Hudson River before slamming into a school bus. The picture shows the crashed vehicle used in the lower Manhattan strike on Tuesday. Eight people were killed and 12 injured before the suspect, 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov, was shot at and arrested. According to a Reuters report, Saipov told authorities that he had made a trial run on October 22 but chose Halloween because more people would be on the streets.
Among the dead were five Argentine tourists from Rosario, part of a group of friends visiting New York for the 30th anniversary of their high school graduation. The Argentine national flag flew at half-mast at the National Flag Memorial in mourning.
