U.S. President Barack Obama in August will host African leaders from countries celebrating 50 years since independence, an administration official said Friday. Mr. Obama, whose father was from Kenya, announced the White House celebration during a meeting with African leaders at the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Huntsville, Canada.
“I’ll be 49 in August,” Mr. Obama reportedly told the gathering, noting that his father was a first-generation African who studied in the United States.
The meeting will aim to discuss the future of the African continent and focus on security, youth and social issues.
