Journalists across Nepal took to the streets demanding punishment to the culprits involved in attacking a young women reporter in western Nepal.
The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) on Thursday demonstrated in front of the District Administration Office in the capital to protest against the attack on a women reporter in Rukum district, a Maoist stronghold in western Nepal.
Tika Bista, 22, a correspondent of a local daily, was allegedly attacked by a group of people with sharp weapons on Tuesday after she criticised the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in an article and has been hospitalised in a serious condition, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said in a statement.
Ms. Bista was found unconscious on a steep hill on 8{+t}{+h} December with head injuries and cuts to the right hand.
Her smashed laptop and mobile were found at the site of the attack.
Some 300 journalists, led by FNJ President Dharmendra Jha, threatened to launch nationwide movement if the government failed to take action against the culprits.
Meanwhile, the RSF has also expressed serious concern over the continued physical assault against journalists in Nepal and asked the government to punish those involved in attacking Tika Bista.
