Nepal Opposition calls for 3-day strike

April 07, 2015 12:27 am | Updated 12:27 am IST - KATHMANDU:

The 30-party Opposition alliance on Monday decided to go ahead with its three-day nationwide general shutdown, beginning on Tuesday, against what they call the government’s move to write a Constitution in violation of various past agreements.

At a meeting of the Parliamentary Party office of UPCN (Maoist) in Singha Durbar, the alliance leaders said they would not call off the shutdown despite calls from Prime Minister Suhil Koirala and the business community.

Amidst the continuing deadlock, the Constituent Assembly Chairman Subhas Chandra Nembang has decided to resume process of Constitution-writing. The CA meeting was to resume on Monday but it just passed a condolence motion for former CA member Ramnath Dhakal who died on Sunday.
