Opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei repeated Friday his calls for President Hosni Mubarak to “step down with dignity”, warning that otherwise Egypt would sink into paralysis and chaos.
“He has lost his legitimacy,” said the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
“The people want democracy in a new state,” the former head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog told Arabic broadcaster al-Jazeera.
Mr. ElBaradei insisted “today will be peaceful, but we will not end the protest until freedom.” He also dismissed concerns raised by some in the West about the Muslim Brotherhood, saying they posed no threat in a post-Mubarak Egypt, and this was being raised only as scare tactic.
