Modi congratulates Netanyahu

March 19, 2015 01:57 am | Updated April 02, 2016 11:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In a demonstration of the openness and increasing bonhomie between India and Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on his re-election.

“Congratulations my friend Bibi @netanyahu! Recall our New York meeting last September warmly,” Mr. Modi tweeted.

India and Israel established bilateral relations in 1992 and, with several common concerns, strategic cooperation quickly progressed. Israel Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon, speaking at Aero India in Bengaluru last month, acknowledged that the ties had indeed come “out of the closet.”
