Israeli airstrikes hit Gaza Hamas sites after rocket attack

July 02, 2016 11:26 am | Updated 11:26 am IST - Gaza City

The Israeli military says it has struck militant sites in Gaza in response to a rocket attack that hit a kindergarten in the Israeli border town of Sderot.

The military says its airstrikes early Saturday targeted four training sites belonging to Gaza’s militant Hamas rulers. No injuries were reported.

The strikes followed a rare rocket attack from Gaza that succeeded in hitting a civilian target in Israel. No one was injured in the attack late Friday but damage was caused to a building.

Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said the rocket attack on Saturday is “a horrific reminder of the intentions of terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip to target communities, people, men, women and children.”

Attacks and counter attacks have been sporadic since the summer war of 2014.
