A 61-year-old Indian man was found dead under an overpass bridge here with stab wounds on Monday.
"The father of two from Doncaster suburb, had been found next to parkland in the Koonung Creek reserve, near Estelle Street, Bulleen," The Age reported quoting Detective Inspector, Bernie Edwards on Monday.
The inspector said the man lived on the other side of the bridge, which crosses the Eastern Freeway.
"We are still investigating how he got to the bottom of the bridge," he said adding blood has been found on the bridge, and police officials are scouring nearby parkland for any signs of a knife or sharp-edged weapon.
"It was particularly cold on Sunday morning so there would have been few pedestrians in the area."
Mr. Edwards said the injuries to the man might have occurred somewhere away from the scene.
The man lived locally and had been in the country for some time. The family have called for details of the man’s identity not to be released.
Meanwhile, Victoria police said, "it was too early to say if the death was caused by a racially motivated attack."
According to The Age , the hunt for the weapon was carried out by the police.
