India and Russia have agreed to reenergise the work of the Indo-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC) by holding intersession meetings between annual sessions on a regular basis.

The decision was taken at a meeting here on Monday of the Indian and Russian co-chairmen of the IRIGC on trade, economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and Deputy Prime minister Dmitry Rogozin.

The new format for the IRIGC was proposed by Mr Rogozin and readily accepted by Mr Khurshid.

"I suggest that we meet at least once in between regular sessions to discuss the full spectre of our cooperation in trade, industry, defence, science and technology," Mr Rogozin said.

Mr Rogozin also proposed to expand the geography of the meetings beyond the capitals of the two countries.

"We are two great beautiful countries, with an endless diversity of regions," he said. "I am keen to visit different cities in India, and I'd be happy to take you to our next meeting to the Far East , the Urals, Siberia and Sochi, where we will be hosting Winter Olympics next year."
