The former Sri Lankan Army Chief, Sarath Fonseka, has become unpopular after the Presidential election, said Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake.

Talking to journalists here on Monday, Mr. Ekanayake said General (retired) Fonseka was deserted by the Opposition soon after he lost the election.

To a question, he said the former General, who was detained for breach of secrecy and war crimes, was safe and was housed in a highly secured place.

After its victory over the LTTE, the Sri Lankan government was focussing its attention on providing relief for and rehabilitation of Tamils.

Mr. Ekanayake, along with his family members, would offer worship to Lord Venkateswara on Tuesday morning.
