Emergency officials in Belarus say at least five people have been killed in the crash of a Russian business jet near Minsk, the capital.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Emergency Services, Sergei Mikinkim, said there were three passengers and three crew members aboard the plane when it crashed late on Monday night into a swampy area.

The fate of the sixth person reportedly on board was not immediately known.

Mr. Mikinkim says the plane belonged to S-Air, a Moscow company that runs a fleet of luxuriously appointed private jets. Company officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Mr. Mikinkim did not give the model of the crashed plane or speculate on the cause of the crash. Minsk had experienced rain and fog throughout the day.
