Five men were on Tuesday arrested on suspicion of being involved in terrorist activity though not related to any immediate threat.

Police said they were picked up in an “intelligence-led” operation from separate addresses in Luton, a predominantly Asian town with a large population of Pakistani expatriates.

The men whose names were not disclosed were said to be between 21 and 35 years of age and were being held at a London police station.

In a statement, police said there was “no danger to the other nearby residents”.
