Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, will be separating from his wife Tipper after 40 years of marriage, it has emerged.
Reports cited an email to friends in which Mr. Gore and his wife said it was “a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration”.
The couple also asked for privacy and said they intended no further comment. They have four adult children.
Mr. Gore is an ardent campaigner for action on climate change, and his work in this area was captured in the award-winning documentary film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.
Along with the Inter-government Panel on Climate Change, Mr. Gore won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
