An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale jolted Peru on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicentre of the quake, monitored at a depth of 602.34 km, was initially determined to be at 10.5846 degrees south latitude and 70.9656 degrees west longitude, Xinhua reported.

There was no report of damage within 30 minutes of the quake that stuck at 5.45 p.m, local time.

The temblor also was felt mildly in Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina, according to local media reports.

It is believed the damage could be limited due to the depth of the earthquake’s epicentre and the remote nature of the areas where the powerful quake hit.
