Police in Nepal say a bus has veered off a mountain highway in the country’s west, killing at least 27 people and injuring another 11.

Police official Lal Bahadur Pandey says the accident took place before dawn Tuesday. Rescuers have been sent to the area near Parkha village, about 400 km north-west of the capital Kathmandu.

The area is a remote mountainous region.
