Twenty-three Indians were picked up in a major operation to arrest illegal immigrants in Norfolk in England on Thursday.
Five multi-agency teams carried out warrants to search for suspected illegal immigrants at various locations in Thetford, officials said. Twenty-three Indians, five Hungarians and three Polish workers were found, while three were detained by the U.K. Border Agency and taken to the Harwich port on the Essex coast for “immigration procedures,” media reports said.
A 49-year-old man, suspected to have brought illegal immigrants to the U.K., has been arrested and is being held in police custody.
Tim Carter, a spokesman from the Gangmasters Licensing Authority, a body dedicated to protecting workers from exploitation, said the immigrants had been employed to pick herbs.
