Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to put a stop to the “reckless manner” in which the Air India management was dealing with the employees who had gone on a flash strike last week.
Mr. Dasgupta, who met Dr. Singh and submitted a memorandum to him here on Monday, pointed out that it was “unprecedented” for the management of the national carrier to have sacked nearly 60 employees and suspended 24 others.
“The punishment handed down is disproportionate to what the employees had done. Such harsh and draconian measures had not been taken even during the Emergency,” Mr. Dasgupta said.
