With a growing interest in yoga among children and parents, the Puducherry Jawahar Bal Bhavan has introduced yoga classes for this year’s summer camp.

The summer camp has received good response with around 1,000 children turning up to register on the first day on Wednesday. It is being held across six centres which include the Jawahar Bal Bhavan on Maraimalai Adigal Salai, Lawspet, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kathirkamam, Villianur, Government Middle School, Kariamanickam, and Ariankuppam. “Parents have been requesting us to include yoga classes. So this year, we have got a yoga master,” said Puducherry Jawahar Bal Bhavan Headmaster S. Nandakumar. More children are expected to register in the coming days, he added.

Classes include vocal, veena, keyboard, guitar, drums, violin, mridangam, cricket, chess, badminton, carrom, tailoring, drawing, bharatanatyam, folk dance and taekwondo. Children in the 6-16 age group are participating in the classes which are being held free of cost. The camp is on till May 30.
