World social worker’s day at JIPMER

March 20, 2014 01:10 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 10:05 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

In order to recognise the efforts of the medico social workers who work at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), they will be holding a special function on Thursday.

The social workers are the ones who work with the community and play a vital role in the recovery of the patient.

In the Regional Cancer Centre, for example, the social workers ensure that the families of the patients who come for treatment are able to cope with the situation.

The workers also give counselling about the kind of treatment required. Without these workers, it would be very difficult to run the hospital, one of the organisers said.

Honour for donors

On the occasion, the various benefactors to the hospital who have donated a number of wheelchairs and other facilities to the hospital will be honoured.

During the occasion the Regional Cancer Centre and the Plastic Surgery ward will receive two wheelchairs, 10 walkers and two television sets. The Medico social workers will also be highlighting their achievements in the hospital, Social Service Officer Chitralekha said.
