As a follow-up to the last week’s video conferencing by Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, in checking any cheating by job racketeers, the police have swung into action.
At a special meeting convened by V.J. Chandran, Senior Superintendent of Police, a five-point action plan was evolved to end the problem. It aimed at creating mutual trust between the employers and the job seekers.
All the travel agencies should obtain licence from the Karaikal municipality. They were directed to get recognition from the Union Ministry of Overseas Employment, in case of obtaining applications for overseas employment.
“Before deputing youths to foreign countries, employers should present a detailed description about the nature of job, emoluments at overseas, nature of visa and service conditions and also the exact name of the country where they would be posted.”
In case of agents from adjoining districts in Tamil Nadu, exact information about them should be furnished to the police.
In all, 13 travel agents participated in the meeting.
Last Thursday, a group of youths complained to the Lt. Governor that they had been duped up to Rs. 45 lakh on the pretext of overseas employment. The Lt. Governor immediately directed the Senior Superintendent of Police to take immediate action.
